Red Oak is what most people picture when they hear “oak floor” — bold open grain, warm color, and substantial weight. It’s slightly softer and more porous than white oak, which means it shouldn’t be used for marine or exterior work, but those same characteristics make it stain beautifully and feel right at home in residential interiors. It mills cleanly and takes a finish predictably.
Red Oak is the default flooring hardwood for a reason: it's hard enough for high-traffic spaces, mills consistently, takes stain evenly, and pairs with virtually any interior style. Beyond flooring, it's the species cabinet shops reach for when they want grain to be part of the visual story.
